Yellow Fever Vaccine now available at the Eastbrooke Family Clinic Southport

The Eastbrooke Family Clinic Southport has recently been accredited by QLD Health as a certified Gold Coast yellow fever vaccination centre.

Doctor Chuck Fung Kong is available to administer this important vaccine to Gold Coast residents whom are travelling to Africa, the Caribbean, Central or South America.

Yellow fever is a viral disease that is transmitted primarily by mosquitoes. Yellow fever can lead to serious illness and even death. It is called ‘yellow fever’ because in serious cases, the skin turns yellow in colour, this is known as ‘jaundice’. Persons who catch this disease have a sudden onset of fever, chills, severe headache, back pain, general body aches, nausea, vomiting, fatigue and weakness. Some persons recover, but some people do develop shock and organ failure.

Yellow fever is preventable and the yellow fever vaccine is safe and almost 100 percent effective. With few exceptions, vaccination is recommended for all travellers to countries or areas where there is a risk of yellow fever transmission.

The yellow fever vaccine is recommended for people who are nine months of age (or older) and who are travelling or living in any country in West Africa, regardless of where they will be in that country, and persons who are nine months of age or older travelling or living outside the urban areas of all other yellow fever endemic countries. A single dose of yellow fever vaccine will provide life-long protection against the disease and protection begins 10 days after vaccination, therefore travellers should make sure they are vaccinated (no less than 10 days) before entering the yellow fever risk area

International health regulations require that people travelling (to or from) these countries carry an International Certificate of Vaccination. This is not only to protect you from getting this deadly, untreatable disease, but also to prevent it from spreading around the world. The yellow fever vaccination and certificate are required for re-entry to Australia if you have visited a yellow fever country.

To make an appointment regarding this vaccine, Gold Coast residents can phone our Southport Clinic directly on (07) 5557 7888 or current patients of the centre can book online.
