Dr Porter obtained his Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery from the University of London, United Kingdom in 1977. He has worked extensively throughout the UK before relocating to Melbourne in the 80s. He has also worked as a Visiting Medical Officer in a busy Melbourne hospital and as a Civilian Medical Officer on naval vessels.
