New Asthma Clinic opens at the Blacktown GP Super Clinic

Eastbrooke Medical Centres recently established a new Asthma and Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease Clinic (COPD Clinic) to service the Blacktown and local surrounding areas.

COPD is a major cause of disability, hospital admission and premature death.

More than 600,000 Australians are estimated to have COPD and currently effects nearly 2 million Australians, accounting for 9.9% of the entire population*

The new asthma clinic provides patients who have Asthma and COPD with additional support and strategies to manage their specific conditions.

Our COPD bulk billed management plan includes four components:

  1. Assess and monitor disease
  2. Reduce risk factors
  3. Manage stable COPD
  4. Manage exacerbations

The goals of the COPD clinic are to:

  1. Prevent disease progression
  2. Relieve symptoms
  3. Improve exercise tolerance
  4. Improve health status
  5. Prevent and treat complications
  6. Prevent and treat exacerbations

Working with our patients to effectively manage their asthma and prevent the onset of COPD is important to Eastbrooke. Having COPD can be a stressful life event and apart from the physical symptoms, a patient may feel depressed, anxious, worried, irritable, isolated and confused. Patient support is all about helping to manage and control symptoms, overcome negative feelings and build confidence again.
